Use the official USPS appointment page:
Schedule a USPS Passport Appointment
Step 1: Choose a Service
Under “Service Type,” select:
- New Passport Only if you already have a qualifying photo
- New Passport with Photo Services if you want USPS to take your photo
Then enter the number of adults and minors attending the appointment.
Step 2: Search by Location or Date
You can search for appointments by:
- Location
- Preferred date
Searching by location is usually easiest. Enter your city and state or ZIP Code, choose a search radius, and select whether you need a location that offers passport photos.
Step 3: Select the Post Office, Date, and Time
Choose one of the available Post Office locations, followed by an appointment date and time.
USPS states that appointments take approximately 15 minutes per person. Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early.
If you cannot find a convenient appointment:
- Increase the search radius
- Search by date instead of location
- Check nearby towns
- Look again on another day
- Search for a non-USPS passport acceptance facility
Step 4: Enter Your Contact Information
You will be asked for:
- First and last name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Preferred verification method
After receiving the verification code, review the appointment information and confirm it.
Keep the confirmation number. You will need it if you want to modify or cancel the appointment later.
What Happens at the Appointment?
Bring your complete application package, including:
- Unsigned Form DS-11
- Original citizenship document
- Photocopy of the citizenship document
- Physical photo ID
- Photocopy of the front and back of the ID
- Passport photo, unless USPS is taking it
- Legal name-change document, if applicable
- Check or money order for the State Department fee
- Payment for the acceptance fee
- Expedited-service payment, if requested
The acceptance agent will review the documents, witness your signature, collect the application, and send the package to the State Department.
